Main Course

Like the dinner party hostess who had over-catered, BGB could only look on with disappointment as the mountains of flour he had used went to waste! Only TT2 made a gallant attempt to finish all the course(s) but baulked at the Black Forest Gateau for by then it was very black indeed!

Lonely, Handful, Zebedee and Florence missed out on the starters altogether but even then couldn’t manage it all. Their excuses for lateness were feeble - - “ROAD AHEAD CLOSED”, helicopter stuck on railway track (it’s true), lost sock and so they were scurrying across the car park at 7:50 in a desperate bid to catch the pack. They soon encountered Chuck who set a cracking pace through the woods. Some kind soul (TT2?) had kicked out the checks so they steamed ahead leaving Florence barely able to draw breath in their wake. They passed Nutty, Scrumper and a mystery blonde who seemed to be out for an evening stroll and then Ms. Whiplash, Knee-trembler and Salome.

On the brow of the hill Two-bob and Puddleduck were looking (not very hard) for the missing Fatman (Anthony). The helpful Handful and Florence stopped, glad of a rest. Those charmers Twobob and Puddleduck seized their opportunity to lure the girls down a country lane with the promise of a small short cut and that they would head off the pack at the next check. Alas, they saw no one else until the pub was in sight. Sure enough up the lane there was a check but there was no sign of the pack. Handful was very pleased with herself – she checked it out and found the trail – something of a first for her! The four soldiered on through the gathering gloom. Eventually out on the road they caught up with Tweenie, Jane and Whitefang who were so delighted to see fellow hashers that they broke into a gentle trot.

Meanwhile the main pack found “long” and “short” signs where they felt the ON-inn should be. Most ran straight back to the pub. TT2, Foghorn, Cerberus, Judy, Zebedee and Captain Yfronts braved the long but were soon defeated by darkness. TT2 and Zebedee were the last back at 9:20. Only the hare, BGB, had done the whole trail and he had to take Tuesday off work to recover!!
